For the second consecutive year, the Kopaonik Business Forum opened with a discussion on the first Specialized Exhibition in the Western Balkans and its contribution to the development of Serbia and the entire region. The opening topic of the 32nd edition of the "Serbian Davos" was " Unlocking Potential: EXPO 2027“. The audience was addressed by Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, who presented the progress made so far in organizing the largest international event in Serbia’s history, as well as the plans for the upcoming global gathering in Belgrade.
Borovčanin reiterated that more than 70 countries have already confirmed their participation in the Specialized Exhibition and that by the end of the year, over 100 are expected to be registered. "Beyond the confirmations themselves, the pace of country registrations and the strong interest shown reflect the trust that some of the world’s most influential nations have in Serbia. Their participation confirms that Serbia is a stable country capable of hosting such a major global event," Borovčanin stated. He also announced the launch of seven business platforms, expected to attract 10,000 registered users, 30,000 connections, and 50,000 discussions, all aimed at engaging the business community.
Danilo Dangubić, Chief Architect of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, emphasized that Expo in Belgrade is fully dedicated to legacy. "These types of events are often criticized for leaving pavilions unused after the exhibition ends, but this will not be the case in Serbia. Expo 2027 Belgrade has been planned from the very beginning to leave a lasting legacy and to be 100% legacy-driven, while also adhering to the highest standards of green construction and responsible urban development," said Dangubić.
Mihailo Vesović, Director of Strategic Analyses, Services, and Internationalization at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, described Expo 2027 Belgrade as an exceptionally ambitious project in every sense and a catalyst for accelerated regional development. "We can already see how Expo is driving the economy—primarily through the construction sector and its related industries, ensuring that infrastructure is developed to the highest standards. Expo 2027 is an opportunity for Serbian businesses to connect with the world, open new markets, and showcase our companies as reliable partners in innovation and sustainable development. We anticipate a significant economic and investment boost, as well as stronger international business ties," Vesović stated. He also reminded that during the 93 days of Expo 2027, more than 4 million visitors are expected, including high-level delegations, which will be crucial for economic networking.
This sentiment was echoed by Jamie Paterson, Director of Strategy and Planning at Expo City Dubai, who shared Dubai’s experiences and noted that Serbia has a unique opportunity to make a major economic leap forward. "Belgrade has a unique chance to showcase its dynamism, creativity, and potential through Expo 2027, using insights from past editions as a springboard for building new partnerships," said the expert from the UAE. Paterson emphasized that Expo proves Serbia’s capability to host a major global event—an achievement beyond the reach of most countries—which is a significant success for the nation.
Vukašin Grozdić from the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation highlighted Expo 2027 Belgrade as an ideal platform for Serbia to present its new, technologically innovative identity. "Expo 2027 will be a stage for showcasing Serbian innovations, an opportunity to connect with global partners, and a demonstration of how science, technology, and creative industries shape the future. We also expect this exhibition to inspire young innovators and encourage the development of new ideas that will contribute to global progress," he emphasized.
Addressing the sports aspect of Expo 2027 Belgrade, EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Beograd deputy director and famous Serbian basketball player Dejan Tomašević reminded the audience that 10,000 events will take place during Expo, with a strong presence from sports federations. He revealed that even the NBA has expressed keen interest in the event. "We have initiated discussions, and we hope that by next year, an NBA team will visit to play a match against local clubs. Additionally, UEFA has also expressed interest in participating in Expo 2027 through a pavilion and activations, particularly those tailored for younger audiences," Tomašević announced.
The Kopaonik Business Forum, organized by the Serbian Association of Economists for more than three decades, remains the most prestigious and influential business event in Serbia—making it the perfect venue to highlight the vast socio-economic potential of Expo 2027 Belgrade.
