EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Sign Cooperation Agreement

Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, and the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Academician Bela Balint, have signed a Cooperation Agreement establishing the general framework for joint activities in support of the organisation of the Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade.
The Agreement defines the participation in the joint planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes that promote science, innovation, technological development and digital transformation. It also envisages the possibility of organising joint events, public engagements, campaigns, conferences, forums and other activities aimed at strengthening the innovation and research ecosystem, with the support of Science and Technology Parks and Regional Innovation Centres.
In addition to the exchange of information and best practices, the two parties agreed on the joint promotion and organisation of events, workshops and programmes implemented by institutions operating under the Ministry, within the ExpoTech Pavilion.
Guided by the shared objective of promoting Serbia internationally and ensuring the successful organisation of the first international exhibition in the Western Balkans, the Agreement also provides for the joint establishment of a network of researchers and innovators to enhance coordination, knowledge exchange, and collaboration within the national innovation ecosystem.
To support the implementation of these activities, a working group will be formed, comprising representatives of the Ministry and EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade. The group will be responsible for harmonising activities and timelines and monitoring overall progress.
“By signing this Cooperation Agreement with the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, we have taken an important step towards the successful organisation of EXPO 2027. Our ambition is to present to the world not only Serbia’s traditional hospitality but also its significant scientific, technological, and innovation achievements. We believe that there is no more natural partnership than joining forces with the said Ministry to promote Serbia as a regional technological hub and leader, giving new momentum to the Specialised Expo. A considerable part of the EXPO 2027 Programme will be dedicated to new technologies, innovation and science, and we aim to showcase the full potential of our country in this field. We extend our gratitude to Minister Balint for his support and look forward to cooperation that will present Serbia in an entirely new light,” said Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
On this occasion, the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Academician Bela Balint, emphasised that EXPO 2027 Belgrade represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Serbia to demonstrate how knowledge, science, creativity and innovation shape our future.
“I am pleased with the constructive meeting we held with the EXPO 2027 delegation, led by Director Danilo Jerinić. In addition to signing the Cooperation Agreement, we engaged in a meaningful, constructive and productive discussion on how to further strengthen our cooperation. EXPO 2027 is a major opportunity for Serbia, and with this in mind, we explored ways to involve all partners in order to fully utilise the potential of this important international event. Our visit to Japan, led by President Aleksandar Vučić, was of great significance for understanding the organisational aspects and the potential of such exhibitions, enabling us to see first-hand how to make the most of the opportunity granted to Serbia. The strategy of our Ministry places cooperation with EXPO 2027 among its key priorities across various fields, including artificial intelligence, bioengineering and innovation, ensuring that we take full advantage of the opportunities for the development of these sectors in Serbia,” Minister Balint stated.
The main Theme of EXPO 2027, “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”, comprises three thematic clusters, each exploring different dimensions of play and how they can positively influence humanity. One of these, “Play for Progress”, focuses on innovation through start-ups and scientific institutes, highlighting individuals ranging from artists to developers and creating a framework that illustrates the importance and interconnectedness of play, imagination and learning in the development of science, the arts and technology.
Expo 2027 Belgrade will take place from 15 May to 15 August 2027. Over its 93-day duration, the exhibition is expected to attract more than four million visitors from Serbia and abroad.
