Expo 2027 in the Spotlight of Day of America – Serbia on the Global Stage of Innovation
“We expect around six million visitors at Expo 2027 Belgrade,” said Dušan Borovčanin, Advisor to the Director of Expo 2027 ltd, at the Day of America event, which has been organized for four consecutive years by the Serbian-American Friendship Congress (SAFC) with the aim of further strengthening diplomatic, political, and economic ties between the two countries.
He emphasized that international exhibitions have a tradition of more than 170 years, and that Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin were among those who presented their patents and visionary achievements. “Tesla’s discoveries left permament mark on the history of international exhibitions, as it was precisely at these events that the whole world had the opportunity to witness the power and reach of his brilliant mind,” Borovčanin highlighted. On this occasion, he reminded the audience of the Expo held in 1893 in Chicago, remembered for the famous “War of the Currents” – the fierce battle between the direct current system, championed by Thomas Edison, and the alternating current system, whose main advocate was Nikola Tesla. “The organizers opted for the more efficient alternating current concept, which marked a great victory for Tesla’s idea and once again confirmed that international exhibitions represent a key platform for the affirmation of innovative and visionary solutions,” Borovčanin reminded.
Borovčanin also underlined that Expo 2027 represents an exceptional opportunity for Serbia to present itself to the world, particularly for Serbian companies, which can use Expo 2027 to establish new partnerships and enter the global market, while visitors will have a unique chance to see and experience the whole world in one place.
In regard to the preparations for the exhibition itself, Borovčanin also emphasized the importance of legacy, noting that the facilities built will retain their purpose even after the event concludes. He added that Serbia will also gain invaluable experience through the preparations, organization, and construction process, contributing to the development of new knowledge, standards, and capacities that will remain long after Expo 2027.
He concluded that very few countries can take pride in having hosted an Expo, and that Serbia will now join that distinguished group, alongside the United States, which has been a multiple-time host.
