Expo 2027 Supports the 60th Jubilee Children’s October Salon: The Power of Play for Humanity – Architecture, Heritage and the Creativity of the Youngest

In collaboration with Kiparh Children’s Architecture School, Expo 2027 is once again supporting the introduction of architectural innovation into children’s education through programmes and workshops as part of the 60th Jubilee Children’s October Salon, marking six decades of continuous creative and educational work dedicated to the youngest generations in Serbia.
This year’s programme connects play, architecture, and memory through a series of themed workshops, exhibitions, and artistic installations celebrating creativity and culture from a child’s perspective.
“We are proud that Expo 2027 is supporting this unique event for the second year in a row. For sixty years, it has inspired children to create and think creatively. The Theme of our Specialised Expo ‘Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All’ and that of the Children’s October Salon naturally intertwine. Through play, we build bridges between eras, cultures, and generations,” said Danilo Jerinić, CEO of EXPO 2027 doo Belgrade.
As part of the educational workshops held throughout October at the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade, children explore architectural epochs through play: from Bauhaus and Art Deco to Modernism and the imagined architecture of the future. The “Memory Map” and “Map of Wishes” workshops encourage them to reflect on the past and imagine the future through the power of play, linking personal experience with the urban identity of Belgrade.
A special segment of this year’s Salon is the interactive “Pavilion of Play – 60×60” installation, a symbolic structure made up of sixty unique modules designed and assembled by children, each representing one of the Salon’s previous years. The installation symbolically reflects the pavilions of Expo 2027, thus connecting children’s creativity with the global vision of this Specialised Exhibition, where every pavilion represents ideas, cultures, and legacies that will inspire future generations.
The Time Capsule, which will be sealed on this occasion until the Salon’s centenary in 2064, offers children the opportunity to place their drawings, messages, models, and Polaroid memories inside, creating a collective message for future generations and becoming part of the cultural heritage and legacy of this event. The resulting works will also be featured in a special publication, as a legacy, and presented at Expo 2027.
