From London 1851 to Belgrade 2027: The Principality of Monaco Continues Its Expo Tradition
The Principality of Monaco is one of more than 130 countries that have officially confirmed their participation in the International Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade, to be held from 15 May to 15 August 2027, under the “Play for Humanity” Theme.
Monaco has an exceptionally long and uninterrupted tradition of participation in World and Specialised Exhibitions, beginning with the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, placing it among the countries that have actively taken part in international exhibitions since their very inception. Since then, Monaco has consistently used the Expo platform to present its values, innovations and cultural identity.
Throughout its participation in the previous international exhibitions, Monaco has on numerous occasions received awards for creativity, architectural solutions, and strong thematic interpretation, particularly in the fields of sustainable development and environmental protection. Its pavilions are often recognised as exemplary expressions of an elegant combination of contemporary design, educational content, and a clear message of global responsibility.
As one of the oldest principalities in Europe, with the Grimaldi dynasty whose continuity spans more than seven centuries, Monaco consistently promotes the values of international cooperation and long-term thinking at Expos, reflected in a strong focus on biodiversity conservation, including the protection of seas and oceans. Its distinctive red-and-white flag is among the oldest national flags in the world.
Bilateral relations between Serbia and Monaco were established in 2007 and have since been continuously developing in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation. Monaco’s participation will contribute to the diversity of the programme and enrich the global dialogue that will take place in Belgrade during the summer of 2027 through sport, music, creativity and innovation as the main pillars of the programme.
