Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Serbia and Commissioner General for Expo 2027 Belgrade, Jagoda Lazarevic, then Director of EXPO 2027 doo Belgrade, Danilo Jerinic, and Commissioner of the Japan Section for Expo 2027 Belgrade, Sachiko Yoshimura, signed today at the Expo 2027 Playground the Participation Contract confirming Japan’s participation in the Specialized Expo 2027 Belgrade.
The signing of the Participation Contract represents another important step in the preparation process for Expo 2027 Belgrade and further confirms the strong international interest in taking part in the largest international event ever to be organised by Serbia until now.
Emphasizing the importance of Japan’s participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade, minister Lazarevic noted that Japan is one of Serbia’s most important international partners and a country with an outstanding reputation in the fields of innovation, technology, and international cooperation.
“The signing of the Participation Contract for Japan’s participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade marks a very important milestone in the preparations for our Specialised Exhibition. Last year, Japan hosted the World Expo in Osaka, where Serbia presented itself very successfully, and today we continue to build upon the experiences gained there together with our Japanese partners,” said Lazarevic.
Japan is one of the countries that has left a profound mark on the history of international exhibitions. As the host of the World Expo in Osaka in 1970, Expo 2005 Aichi, and Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan has for decades actively contributed to the development of international exhibitions as platforms for showcasing innovation and connecting people from around the world.
Commissioner of the Japan Section for Expo 2027 Belgrade, Sachiko Yoshimura, pointed out that Japan sees its participation in the exhibition in Belgrade as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with Serbia and present Japanese achievements to an international audience.
“The theme of Expo 2027 Belgrade, Play for Humanity, carries an exceptionally important message at a time when the world is facing numerous challenges and divisions. Through the Japan Pavilion, we wish to demonstrate how play, creativity, and human connection can contribute to building a better future. We believe that Expo 2027 will serve as a powerful platform for cultural exchange, dialogue, and cooperation, as well as an opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Japan and Serbia,” stated Section Commissioner of the Japan for Expo 2027 Sachiko Yoshimura.
The importance of cooperation with Japan was also highlighted by the Director of EXPO 2027 Ltd. Belgrade, Danilo Jerinić, who noted that the experiences gained during Expo 2025 Osaka are invaluable for the preparation of the Specialized Exhibition in Belgrade.
“During Expo 2025 Osaka, we had the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop a deeper understanding of all aspects involved in organizing an event of this scale, from logistics and safety to visitor management. Many of those lessons are already being applied in the preparations for Expo 2027 Belgrade. I am also particularly pleased by the strong interest shown by volunteers from Japan in becoming part of our project, which is yet another confirmation of the close ties between our two countries and of the international significance of Expo 2027,” said Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 Ltd. Belgrade.
The Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade will be held from 15 May to 15 August 2027. Over the course of 93 days, it will bring together countries, international organisations, companies, and visitors from across the globe through programmes dedicated to sport, music, innovation, and cultural exchange.
