The Republic of Albania is among the 137 countries that have confirmed their participation in the Specialized Exhibition Expo 2027 Belgrade. From May 15 to August 15, 2027, Albania will present its national program through a dynamic blend of cultural heritage and contemporary development.

Diplomatic relations between Serbia and Albania date back to 1914, while today’s bilateral cooperation focuses on areas of mutual interest, including economic collaboration, European integration, and infrastructure connectivity.

Albania has a strong track record of participation in international exhibitions, including Expo 2015 in Milan and Expo 2020 in Dubai. At Expo Dubai, the country presented themes of sustainability, tourism development, renewable energy, and Mediterranean hospitality through a forward-looking and contemporary concept. The Albanian Pavilion welcomed more than 200,000 visitors during the exhibition, underscoring its global relevance and visibility. Over the course of the 93-day exhibition, visitors to Expo 2027 will have the opportunity to experience Albania through a unique fusion of tradition and contemporary expression. From iso-polyphony one of Europe’s most authentic vocal traditions and part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage to a vibrant contemporary music and cultural scene gaining increasing international recognition. As a multi-voiced expression rooted in balance and mutual listening, iso-polyphony symbolizes community, dialogue, and collective identity values deeply embedded in Albanian society and closely aligned with the theme of Expo 2027.

In Albania, sport and culture play a significant social role. Dance has traditionally served as a way of bringing communities together, transmitting identity, and strengthening social bonds. From the dance of Osman Taka, through the dynamic performances of the Tropojë region, to the iconic Shota, these expressions reflect a rich cultural heritage that remains vibrant today.

Football, as the country’s most popular sport, represents a powerful unifying force across generations, while national team appearances at UEFA EURO tournaments reflect Albania’s growth and ambition on the European stage. At the same time, achievements in athletics, wrestling, and weightlifting highlight discipline, dedication, and the country’s continuous development in sport.

Albania is also building a development model based on sustainability and innovation. With more than 95% of its electricity generated from hydropower, it ranks among countries strongly committed to renewable energy. At the same time, its natural and cultural assets from the Albanian Riviera to UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Berat and Gjirokastër position it as one of Europe’s most attractive emerging tourist destinations.

Albanian cuisine represents an essential part of the country’s cultural identity, combining Mediterranean influences with the richness of Balkan traditions. Dishes such as Tavë Kosi from Elbasan, various types of byrek, and Tirana-style fërgesë reflect the diversity of flavors and local culinary heritage. Traditional beverages, including grape and mulberry rakia, alongside a growing wine industry in regions such as Berat and Korça, further enrich the gastronomic offering and position Albania as an appealing destination for food and wine enthusiasts.

Expo 2027 Belgrade represents an opportunity for the countries of the Western Balkans to present themselves as part of a region built on shared values, but also on diverse identities that make it unique. Albania’s participation further confirms that this event is becoming a platform for strengthening regional cooperation and repositioning the region on the global stage,”
said Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.

As the first international exhibition in the Western Balkans, Expo 2027 Belgrade is expected to attract more than four million visitors and offer a unique platform for showcasing diverse cultural expressions from around the world through sport, music, and dance.

In Belgrade in 2027, Albania will not only be a participant, but an active contributor to the global dialogue on how tradition, community, and innovation together shape a sustainable and connected future.
