Monumental “Aerarium saxeum” Sculpture Unveiled at the EXPO 2027 Company Headquarters

The monumental sculpture “Aerarium saxeum”, discovered during the works on the building at 5 Kralja Milana Street, which today houses the headquarters of EXPO 2027 d.o.o., has become part of the collection of the Museum of Yugoslavia. The sculpture, created by Ante Marinović, a renowned Yugoslav sculptor, represents another important piece of cultural heritage, bearing witness to the spirit of a particular time and to the artistic epoch of this region.
The work was created in the early 1980s as an artistic installation for the building of the then Ljubljanska Banka and represents an outstanding example of the modernist art of that period. As an integral part of the architectural concept of the building, the sculpture was fully aligned with the then-prevailing practice of thoughtfully connecting art, architecture and public space, in which a work of art is not an addition, but a constituent element of the overall spatial identity.
During the recent reconstruction of the building, the sculpture was, with the author’s consent, relocated to the Museum of Yugoslavia, where it has been given a new context and permanent protection. Today, it can be seen on the front façade of the “25 May” Museum, accessible to the public as part of the permanent open-air exhibition.
The unveiling of the “Aerarium saxeum” sculpture at the EXPO 2027 company headquarters testifies to the rich artistic tradition and cultural heritage of our country, which will be presented to millions of visitors from around the world through the Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade.
