In anticipation of Expo 2027, a meeting was held today between the representatives of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, the Ministry of Sport, more than 80 representatives of national sports federations, as well as the Sports Federation of Serbia, and the Olympic and Paralympic Committees of Serbia.
The joint conclusion of this significant gathering, hosted at the Expo 2027 Playground, was that sport will represent one of the strongest pillars of the Specialised Exhibition Expo 2027 Belgrade and its lasting legacy which Serbia will share with the world.
Highlighting the importance of the participation of sports organisations at Expo 2027, Minister of Sport Zoran Gajić stated that this is a historic opportunity for sport in Serbia: “We will have a chance to showcase the strength of our unity, to present our outstanding athletes, and to convey the values of discipline, perseverance, and victory on the global stage,” the Minister noted, inviting all sports federations to take an active role and become part of Expo 2027, which, in his words, will define Serbia’s place in the world of sport and international cooperation.
Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, emphasised the key role of sport in representing Serbia: “Sport is part of our identity, a symbol of determination, victory and solidarity. At Expo 2027, it will be through sport that we showcase this energy, connect visitors, and present Serbia as a country of youth and winning spirit. I am confident that sport will become one of the brightest symbols of this Exhibition, a legacy to be passed on to future generations.”
The meeting particularly underlined that Expo offers a unique opportunity to address contemporary social challenges through sport - from the crisis of mental health and declining physical activity, to the imbalance between work and leisure, the lack of social cohesion, and even technological oversaturation. Games, tournaments, demonstrations, and innovative programmes at Expo 2027 will show that sport is not just competition, but a tool for strengthening the values of every society. Expo 2027 will bring together over 120 countries and more than four million visitors. Alongside innovation, culture and diplomacy, Serbia will present sport to the world as a fundamental pillar of connectivity and an inspiration for generations to come.
