Algeria at Expo 2027 Belgrade: A Crossroads of Civilizations, a Culture of Contemporary Energy, and an Experience Filled with Sounds, Colors and Encounters

11.04.2026

The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is one of the 137 countries that have confirmed their participation in the Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade and will, throughout the 93 days of the Exhibition, present its unique blend of culture, tradition and contemporary creativity, inviting visitors to experience the richness of its identity.

As the largest country in Africa and a true crossroads of civilizations, Algeria offers extraordinary cultural and natural wealth. Between the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlas Mountains and the vast expanses of the Sahara, diverse landscapes unfold - landscapes that have shaped the lifestyle, traditions and spirit of this country for centuries.

Algeria’s rich history is reflected in numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as Timgad, Djemila, Tipasa, the Casbah of Algiers and the M’Zab Valley. These monuments bear witness to a layered heritage spanning Numidian, Roman, Arab and Ottoman influences, which together form the country’s distinctive cultural identity.

Music occupies a central place in Algerian culture. Raï music, inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is one of the country’s most recognizable musical expressions, while genres such as chaabi, Andalusian, Kabyle, Gnawa and Tuareg music reflect the richness and diversity of Algeria’s soundscape.

Sports and traditional skills also hold an important place in society. Fantasia, a spectacular equestrian performance with deep historical roots, symbolizes strength, pride and unity. At the same time, numerous festivals, such as the International Festival of Timgad, bring together artists and audiences from around the world.

Algerian gastronomy represents a fusion of flavors and traditions - from couscous and tajine to sweets made with dates and honey - reflecting Berber, Arab, African and Mediterranean heritage.

Today, Algeria is increasingly turning toward innovation and young people, whose energy is bringing new forms of expression and a contemporary approach to culture, connecting tradition with the digital age.

“Algeria’s participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade brings a unique story of the meeting of cultures, tradition and contemporary energy. Its rich heritage and vibrant cultural scene will perfectly align with the theme ‘Play for Humanity’, and we are confident that its presentation will inspire and connect visitors from all over the world,” said Danilo Jerinic, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Beograd.

At Expo 2027 Belgrade, Algeria will present an experience where music, sports, culture and innovation come together. Through the strength of tradition and the energy of new generations, visitors will discover a country that lives in harmony between heritage and the future.

Algeria is not merely a place - it is an experience filled with sounds, colors and encounters, uniquely reflecting the spirit of the theme: “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”.
