CERN Becomes an Official Participant of Expo 2027 Belgrade

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), one of the world’s leading scientific research institutions, signed the Participation Contract for EXPO 2027 Belgrade, marking the first time it will participate in a World Expo as an Official Participant with its own pavilion. The contract was signed by Jagoda Lazarević, Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Serbia and Commissioner of the Exhibition, Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, and Dr Ursula Bassler, CERN Director for Stakeholders Relations and Section Commissioner of CERN for Expo 2027 Belgrade. Lazarević said CERN’s participation was a great recognition for Serbia and strong support for the exhibition, while Jerinić described it as one of the most significant milestones in the preparations. “CERN’s presence is a powerful confirmation that institutions shaping the future of humanity will be showcased in Belgrade next year,” said Jerinić.

Dr Ursula Bassler emphasized that CERN was especially pleased to participate in a World Expo as an official participant for the first time. She said the theme “Play for Humanity” closely reflects the role of play, curiosity and exploration in science and that CERN’s pavilion would make complex scientific topics accessible to a broad audience. The agreement is intended to create a lasting legacy beyond the exhibition and inspire young people to pursue careers in science, research and innovation. Expo 2027 Belgrade will take place from 15 May to 15 August 2027, bringing together more than 140 countries, international organizations and companies under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”
