Expo 2027 Enters a New Phase: Kerkentzes Praises Organisation and Construction Progress
Construction of the Expo 2027 Belgrade complex is progressing according to schedule, said Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), at the opening of the three-day Technical Preparation Meeting at the Expo 2027 Site. The meeting brought together more than 250 representatives from 43 countries, including engineers, architects, designers and other experts who, together with the organisers, are moving from planning to concrete technical and operational preparations for their national pavilions. “Based on all the comments I have heard from participating countries, Serbia is doing an excellent job organising the Expo. Construction of the complex is progressing very well and everything is moving according to schedule,” Kerkentzes said. Expo 2027 Belgrade Commissioner Jagoda Lazarević noted that the meeting marks the beginning of a new phase in which participating countries are becoming directly involved in preparations for their pavilions, with the first delegations due to arrive as early as October.
Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, announced that the handover of the first pavilions to participating countries will begin soon, while all pavilions will be ready for handover by 1 December. He emphasized that, with more than 140 international participants, a major logistical and operational challenge lies ahead, involving coordination of pavilion preparations, logistical support and connecting participants with Serbian companies. Kerkentzes said that countries are eagerly awaiting the handover of their pavilion spaces and that most of them will be physically present at the site by December, while also highlighting the positive impressions of Serbia’s hospitality. The Technical Preparation Meeting runs from 1 to 3 October, after which preparations by participating countries will enter the operational phase ahead of the opening of Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade on 15 May next year.
