EXPO 2027: MAURITANIA – A COUNTRY WHERE THE SAHARA MEETS THE ATLANTIC

Mauritania is one of the 142 international participants that have so far confirmed their participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade and will showcase a country where the Sahara meets the Atlantic Ocean, with its rich cultural heritage, natural phenomena and contemporary development ambitions. Its distinctive features include the ancient caravan city of Chinguetti, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and whose libraries preserve more than 300,000 medieval manuscripts, the Richat Structure known as the “Eye of the Sahara”, and Banc d’Arguin National Park. Traditional Hassaniya music is also an important part of the country’s identity, while Mauritania is simultaneously turning towards renewable energy and green hydrogen production projects, as well as the further development of sport.

Serbia and Mauritania have maintained diplomatic relations since 1966, and its participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade represents a new opportunity to strengthen relations and establish new partnerships between the two countries. “Its participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade further confirms the global character of our exhibition and our mission to bring together countries that, each in their own way, preserve their heritage while building a sustainable future,” emphasised Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade. Mauritania has experience participating in World Expos, from Seville 1992, through Shanghai and Milan, to Osaka 2025, and has been a member of the Bureau International des Expositions since 2002.
