Expo 2027: Volunteer Registration Opens on 15 May
“Volunteer registration for Expo 2027 will open on 15 May. We are confident that the response from volunteers, particularly young people, will be significant, as Expo is a global event of a kind that will not be hosted anywhere in Southeast Europe for the next ten years,” stated Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
Jerinić pointed out that, from May to August 2027, Belgrade will serve as “the home base for 20,000 volunteers from the entire country, the region, and the world”.
“We particularly encourage young people and students, both from Serbia and abroad, to apply for volunteering opportunities. The Government of the Republic of Serbia has adopted a decision recognising volunteering at Expo as voluntary work that may earn each student between one and three ECTS credits, depending on the number of hours completed,” said Jerinić.
He explained that the assessment and recognition of students’ voluntary work is carried out by the higher education institution to which the student belongs, based on a certificate of completed volunteering issued to the student by EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
“Student social engagement is recognised through the award of academic credits at numerous universities in France, Spain, Italy, and Germany. This is a well-established European practice and is not new in Serbia either. The same principle of awarding academic credits for volunteering was applied during the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade,” stated Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
