Expo Caravan Arrives in Sombor: City of Carriages, Tamburica Players and Sporting Champions Joins the Expo 2027 Story
The Expo Caravan “Path of Play” arrived in Sombor, where it presented part of the atmosphere of Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade at St George’s Square through music, tradition, old crafts and sport. The programme featured Basketball Club “Sombor”, where Nikola Jokić took his first basketball steps, the Sombor Half Marathon, Kayak Club “Bezdan”, Football Club “Ravangrad”, as well as representatives of cultural and artistic societies, traditional crafts and Sombor’s music scene. Rastko Andrić, Director of the Operations Sector at EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, emphasized that the “Discover Serbia” programme and the “Serbian House” pavilion will showcase the country’s tourism, sporting, cultural and other potential. “Expo is a major global business platform and an opportunity to establish first business connections with international partners right here,” Andrić said, noting that international participants will require services ranging from logistics, transport and catering to accounting, IT services and pavilion fitting.
An important part of the programme was dedicated to young people, future Expo Playmakers and students who will visit the exhibition through organised school visits. More than 13,000 candidates from 148 countries have already applied for the volunteer programme, while Mirjana Avramović, School Programme Manager at EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, invited students from Sombor to become part of the “great classroom of the world”. Mayor of Sombor Antonio Ratković emphasized that the city sees Expo 2027 as an opportunity to present its culture, tradition and tourism potential to visitors from around the world. Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade will take place from 15 May to 15 August next year, over 93 days, with around four million visits expected, while the Expo Caravan “Path of Play”, supported by platinum sponsors Banka Poštanska štedionica and Telekom Srbija, will visit more than 30 cities during the year.
