Expo Caravan in Zrenjanin: City of Sport and Culture Welcomes Expo 2027

The Expo Caravan – Pavilion of Play arrived in Zrenjanin, where it brought part of the atmosphere of Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade to Zoran Đinđić Square through sport, music, culture and tradition. Nemanja Savčić, Project Manager in the Office of the Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, emphasized that more than 140 international participants and over four million expected visitors represent an opportunity for cities across Serbia. “Zrenjanin is very important to us for one particular reason. The theme of Expo is ‘Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All’, and sport is precisely something that is very distinctive and characteristic of Zrenjanin,” Savčić said. Through the “Serbian House” and the “Discover Serbia” programme, Zrenjanin will have an opportunity to present its sporting and cultural capacities and become part of organised travel packages across Serbia.

Speaking about the exhibition’s legacy, Savčić emphasized that the infrastructure and facilities created for the Expo will continue to be used after it ends, including the new Belgrade Fair and modular pavilions that will be repurposed as schools, kindergartens and sports halls across Serbia. Mayor of Zrenjanin Simo Salapura highlighted that the theme of Expo 2027 aligns with the city’s identity, noting that athletes from Zrenjanin have won 25 Olympic medals and that more than 20 nationalities live in the city. He added that the new motorway, investments, the title of European City of Sport from 2021 and National Capital of Culture from 2025 provide a strong foundation for Zrenjanin to benefit from the international attention that Expo will bring to Serbia.
