Expo Caravan – Pavilion of Play Arrives in Bor: City of Mining, Nature, Sport and Talent Joins the Expo 2027 Story
As a mining city with a rich industrial heritage and remarkable natural beauty, Bor welcomed the Expo Caravan – Pavilion of Play at the plateau in front of the Cultural Centre, where citizens had the opportunity to learn more about Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade and the opportunities it brings to Bor and the whole of Serbia. Tomislav Sarić, Director of the Planning and Development Sector at EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, emphasized that the Expo Caravan is travelling across Serbia because the host of the country’s largest international event is not only Belgrade, but the whole of Serbia. “It is very important to us that students from all cities across Serbia come, with parental consent of course, to discover other cultures, experience the energy and innovations, and see everything that Expo as an exhibition has to offer,” Sarić said. He added that more than 11,000 candidates from 119 countries have applied for the volunteer programme so far and invited young people to become Expo Playmakers.
Mayor of Bor Radiša Petković highlighted the importance of the Expo Caravan’s arrival and the opportunities that Expo 2027 brings to the city and eastern Serbia, noting that Bor wants to present its economy, history, tradition and culture to the world. The programme showcased Bor’s cultural, musical and sporting life through performances by KUD “Zlot” and KUD “Bor”, students of the “Miodrag Vasiljević” Elementary Music School, young vocal and instrumental performers and members of the “Unik” Dance Studio, as well as demonstrations of handball, basketball, volleyball, judo, karate and rugby. The Expo Caravan is supported by Telekom Srbija and Banka Poštanska štedionica, platinum sponsors of Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, which will take place from 15 May to 15 August 2027, over 93 days, with more than 140 confirmed international participants and around four million domestic and international visitors expected.
