From 110 Ideas to One Winning Design: Iran Selects Its Pavilion Concept for Expo 2027 Belgrade

The Islamic Republic of Iran has taken a significant step forward in preparations for its participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade, themed “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.” As part of its efforts to create a distinctive and effective presence at the global event, Iran has organized a national architectural design competition to select the concept for its national pavilion.

The competition received strong interest from Iranian architects and designers, with submissions aiming to reflect both Iran’s rich cultural heritage and its forward-looking vision. Out of 110 proposals submitted, 58 made it to the evaluation stage. Following a comprehensive review process, 10 outstanding designs were shortlisted, and 5 projects were ultimately recognized as the top finalists. “Chameh Architectural Studio” was awarded first place for its innovative and future-oriented design concept.

The award ceremony was held at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground and attended by senior officials involved in Iran’s participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade. Among the attendees were Dr. Sodaif Beikzadeh, Commissioner General of Iran; and Mohammad Mahdi Tondgooyan, Deputy Commissioner General; also prominent figures from the fields of architecture and design.

Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of Iran’s meaningful participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade, highlighting the exhibition’s role in strengthening cultural and economic diplomacy while fostering architectural creativity and innovation. The national competition represents an important milestone in Iran’s preparations for the global exhibition. By selecting a pavilion design aligned with the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All,” Iran reaffirms its commitment to presenting a dynamic, engaging, and culturally resonant pavilion capable of connecting with visitors from around the world at Expo 2027 Belgrade.
