JAPANESE MAESTRO KENICHI SHIMURA TO PERFORM AT EXPO 2027 PLAYGROUND

12.06.2026

Visitors to EXPO 2027 Playground can look forward to the concert “A Bridge of Harmony: Serbia and Japan Concert” on 13 June, from 4 to 5 p.m., bringing together Japanese popular culture and symphonic music. The concert will be conducted by Kenichi Shimura, a distinguished Japanese maestro and Ambassador of the Japan Pavilion at Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy “Anime Symphony”, a project that presents recognisable melodies from popular anime films and video games in a symphonic form, bringing together fans of anime culture, video games, classical music and film music.

Maestro Shimura will be joined by violinist Aleksandra Dimitrijević and the Serbian Symphony Orchestra. The programme includes works by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu and selected compositions by Joe Hisaishi from the animated film “Spirited Away”. Shimura is known for combining classical music with contemporary Japanese culture and has performed in Belgrade several times with the “Anime Symphony” project. The concert offers another opportunity to strengthen cultural ties between Serbia and Japan through the universal language of music, and admission is free.
