More Than 15,000 Applications for Expo Playmakers: Candidates from 145 Countries Want to Be Part of Expo 2027
More than 15,000 people had applied by 29 September for the Expo Playmakers programme, the largest volunteer programme in Serbia’s history, with candidates coming from 145 countries around the world. After Serbia, the highest number of applications came from North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Russia, Montenegro, Croatia, China, Germany and Italy. Danilo Jerinić, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade, said that the level of interest reflects people’s desire to be part of the team that will welcome the world to Belgrade. “Fifteen thousand applications send a powerful message. People want to be part of the team that will welcome the world to Belgrade,” Jerinić said, adding that during the 93 days of the exhibition, Playmakers will represent Serbia through their various roles, knowledge, energy and hospitality.
The programme offers 48 different positions, and candidates can apply for their three preferred roles, with protocol, cooperation with international participants, marketing and security attracting the most interest so far. Previous volunteering experience is not required, while motivation, responsibility and readiness to work with people are important. More than 2,500 live online interviews have already been scheduled, and every applicant will be contacted and invited for an interview. Selected Playmakers will undergo general and role-specific training and simulations, and will receive an internationally recognised certificate developed with the support of the Bureau International des Expositions. Benefits also include a 27% discount on direct Air Serbia flights, free rail transport, Telekom Srbija benefits and the possibility for students to earn additional ECTS credits in accordance with decisions made by their faculties.
