Panoramic Balloon at Ada: A New Perspective of Belgrade Ahead of Expo 2027
As part of Belgrade's preparations for Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, a panoramic balloon painted in Expo colours has been installed on the plateau below Kameni grad at Ada Ciganlija. The first rides are planned for mid-October, and the balloon will rise to a height of 150 metres and accommodate up to 30 visitors at a time. The inspiration comes from the history of international exhibitions, as visitors to the 1878 World Expo in Paris had an opportunity to rise above the host city in a large panoramic balloon. The new attraction connects Ada, as a place for sport, play and time in nature, with the theme of Expo 2027.
“The panoramic balloon is an exceptional opportunity for visitors to experience Ada Ciganlija from the air. This attraction is arriving at a very important time for Belgrade, precisely during preparations for Expo 2027,” said Valentina Jakovljević of the Ada Ciganlija public enterprise. The pilots have completed special training, and the balloon will operate when weather conditions allow. From 1 November to 31 March, it will not fly between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. each day in order to preserve the tranquillity of the pygmy cormorant, a protected bird species that flies over the area during that period. As part of Expo 2027's lasting legacy, the balloon will remain at Ada Ciganlija after the exhibition ends.
