STRONG INTEREST IN EXPO PLAYMAKERS: HERE ARE THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER VOLUNTEER ROLES

The remarkable level of interest in the Expo Playmakers volunteer programme demonstrates that volunteering at Expo 2027 is far more than joining a programme, it is an opportunity to become part of the largest international event ever hosted by Serbia. The most sought-after volunteer roles are those that offer the greatest level of engagement, interaction, and direct involvement in the Exhibition itself, including positions within digital and marketing teams, sports and educational programmes, pavilion operations, security, protocol, operations, and programme and content management. In other words, young people are most eager to take on roles that place them at the heart of Expo 2027, working alongside visitors, delegations, international participants, and teams that will represent Belgrade to the world throughout the 93-day event.
Applications for the Expo Playmakers programme opened on 15 May and are available to all interested individuals from Serbia and abroad who will be at least 18 years of age by 15 April 2027. The volunteer opportunities cover virtually every aspect of Expo 2027 operations, ranging from digital and marketing teams, thematic and international pavilions, cultural, sports and business programmes, to visitor and delegation services, media support, as well as logistics, protocol, transport and mobility.
The response received so far indicates that candidates are particularly attracted to positions involving dynamic work environments, event organisation, and direct interaction with Expo visitors. Among the most popular opportunities are roles within digital and marketing teams, sports and educational programme delivery, as well as pavilion operations, security and protocol services. The highest level of interest has been recorded for positions within the Operations and Programmes & Content sectors, confirming that young people are especially drawn to roles that place them at the centre of the action throughout the Exhibition's 93 days.
Expo 2027 will also serve as a global classroom in practice, providing volunteers with first-hand experience in international communication, protocol, cultural exchange, and major event management through direct engagement with people from different countries and cultures. A particularly important role will be played by volunteers assigned to the Protocol sub-sector, who will support the organisation and implementation of visits by high-level delegations from participating countries, international organisations and officials of the Republic of Serbia. Equally significant will be the contribution of volunteers working in the pavilions of international participants, where they will engage daily with visitors, country representatives and the diverse cultures coming together in Belgrade during Expo 2027.
An important component of the volunteer programme will also be the work carried out in the thematic pavilions, where volunteers will guide visitors through interactive experiences, support the delivery of programme activities and help present the Exhibition’s concept through the thematic areas Play for Security, Play for Creativity, Play for Connection, Play for Movement, Play for Impact and Play for Cooperation.
Volunteer opportunities are also available in sectors that will be essential to the day-to-day operation of Expo 2027, including logistics, transport and mobility, Expo Village operations, visitor centres, service areas, and support services for international participants and delegations.
