The Best Face of Serbia: Expo 2027 Welcomes Its First 5,000 Playmakers

Just days after applications opened, the Expo Playmakers programme has reached its first major milestone, with 5,000 volunteers registering for what is set to become the largest volunteer programme in Serbia’s history. The applicants include students, young professionals, athletes, and individuals from both major cities and smaller communities across Serbia, the region, Europe, and beyond, all united by a common ambition: to contribute to the organisation of Expo 2027 Belgrade, the Specialised Exhibition that will bring together 137 international participants and millions of visitors in Serbia’s capital between 15 May and 15 August 2027. These volunteers will serve as the first point of contact for visitors arriving in Serbia, provide support to international delegations and help showcase the country’s most open, energetic, and welcoming spirit to the world.
“The fact that we have reached 5,000 volunteer applications in just a few days has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates the extent to which people recognise Expo 2027 as an opportunity to be part of an event whose impact will endure long after it concludes. We are particularly encouraged that applications are arriving not only from Serbia, but also from across the region, and from numerous countries around the world. This shows that Expo is already bringing together people, ideas, energy and cultures. Our Playmakers will be the first connection millions of visitors have with Serbia, and they will play a key role in presenting the country’s warmth, openness, and renowned hospitality to the world. I would therefore like to encourage everyone, regardless of age, profession or place of residence, to apply and become part of an event that is making history - and of a generation that will help shape that history,” said Milan Pavlović, Volunteer Programme Manager for Expo 2027.
The Expo Playmakers programme is open to adult applicants from Serbia, the region, and around the world who wish to gain experience working on one of the largest international events to be held in Europe. Volunteers will be able to choose from 48 different roles, ranging from visitor and delegation services to logistics, event operations and support for international teams throughout the Exhibition.
In addition to gaining valuable experience in an international environment, Expo 2027 volunteers will receive role-specific training, an official certificate of participation, and a wide range of partner benefits. These include discounts on Air Serbia flights, special offers provided by Telekom Srbija, and complimentary access to selected passenger rail services during their period of engagement. Students will also have the opportunity to earn additional ECTS credits, while the programme includes a range of benefits offered by Expo 2027 partner organisations. Applications for the Expo Playmakers programme remain open through the dedicated Expo Playmakers Platform.
