The Maldives Join In – 110 Countries Confirm Participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade

Serbia has achieved remarkable success – 110 countries worldwide have officially confirmed their participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade, surpassing the original goal of securing confirmations from 100 countries by the end of 2025.

The latest country to confirm its participation is the Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean with which Serbia has maintained diplomatic relations for over fifty years. Two years from now, the Maldives will present their vision of Expo 2027 Belgrade's theme, "Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All".

“The confirmation of participation by 110 countries at this early stage of preparations for the largest event our country has ever hosted is a crowning testament to the global trust Serbia enjoys, and a powerful indicator of the strength of our cultural diplomacy,” said Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of Expo 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade. “The fact that we have already exceeded our 2025 goal of 100 countries – and in the first half of the year – will only further motivate us to reach the next target of 120 participating countries even faster. Month by month, Serbia continues to raise the bar, and we are very proud and happy that ‘play’ has been recognized as a universal element that unites nations across all continents. Belgrade will continue to follow its historically rooted path and remain what it has always been – a bridge connecting nations, religions, cultures, customs, and traditions, this time through play, music, and sport,” he emphasized, calling on all countries that have not yet confirmed to do so.

“We are moving forward – toward new victories and new confirmations – as we head into 2027, a year that already promises to be historic,” Borovčanin concluded.

Expo 2027 Belgrade will take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027. The 93-day exhibition is expected to attract more than four million visitors. While the anticipated number of participating countries is 120, early interest suggests that the final number could be even higher.
