Young Diaspora Ambassadors Step into the Future – the Expo 2027 Playground

Children’s laughter, curious glances, and boundless energy filled the Expo 2027 Playground today, as Serbian children from the diaspora – participants of the sports camp “Serbia is Calling You” – stepped into the magical world of the future and innovation. As part of their visit to Serbia and Belgrade, young visitors from as many as 17 countries had the opportunity to explore the interactive features of this space and get a glimpse of what awaits us in two years at Expo 2027.

They were welcomed by our celebrated basketball player Dejan Tomašević, now Advisor to the CEO of Expo 2027 Belgrade, who introduced them to the theme of Expo 2027 and highlighted the importance of sports for their development.

This lively expedition through the world of technology, sustainability, and culture was much more than just an ordinary visit, it was a true adventure! With great enthusiasm, the children explored the installations and discovered the topics that will shape the upcoming Specialised Expo. Surprises awaited them at every turn, and the Expo 2027 Playground instantly became their personal playground.

This year’s sixth edition of the “Serbia is Calling You” summer camp gathered 450 Serbian children from the region and the diaspora. The camp runs from 1 to 11 August and includes numerous sports activities, workshops, matches, and visits to the most significant cultural and historical landmarks of Belgrade, and this time, a window into the future: the Expo 2027 Playground.

The organisers of the camp, “Sportstars” and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education, emphasise that such encounters represent another step toward deeper ties between children from the diaspora and their homeland: its tradition, but also its future.

Today, the Expo 2027 Playground served as a stage for children's curiosity, inspiration, and connection, and as our youngest visitors unanimously said on their way out: "See you at Expo 2027!”
