Türkiye

Türkiye
Türkiye is a country with a rich cultural heritage, and its traditional games, dances, and musical instruments reflect the spirit and history of its people.

One of the most beloved children's games in Türkiye is "Bezirganbaşı" ("Open the Door, Merchant"). Two players form a "gate" by holding hands, while the others pass underneath while singing a song. When the song ends, one player is captured and must choose between two "secret names." This process forms teams, and the game concludes with a tug-of-war between the two groups, where the winners manage to pull the opposing team across the line.

"Mendil Kapmaca" ("Handkerchief Snatching") is a competitive game played between two teams standing at opposite ends of a field. A handkerchief is placed in the middle, and when the referee calls out a number, the players with that number from both teams race to grab it. The winner must return to their team before being caught by their opponent.

Beyond traditional games, Türkiye is also known for its dances. "Halay" is one of the most popular dances in the eastern and southeastern regions, while "Horon" is characteristic of the Black Sea region. This fast-paced dance, recognized on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, is distinguished by its energetic movements. "Zeybek", dominant in western Türkiye, symbolizes bravery and pride, with dancers performing solo, without holding hands.

Türkiye’s musical tradition is rich with instruments such as the "duff" (tambourine), "divan sazı" (bağlama), "kanun" (a relative of the zither), and "kaval" (shepherd’s flute). These instruments often accompany both traditional and contemporary musical performances.

Among Türkiye’s most famous musicians are Tarkan, a global pop icon, and Sezen Aksu, the "queen of Turkish pop." Sertab Erener brought Türkiye a victory at Eurovision, while Fazıl Say is renowned in the world of classical music.

Türkiye is also home to top athletes. Cedi Osman shines in the NBA, Arda Turan has left an unforgettable mark on football, and Hedo Türkoğlu was a key player in basketball. Sprinter Ramil Guliyev won gold at the World Championships, while volleyball star Naz Aydemir Akyol dominates European competitions.

Through its games, dances, music, and sports, Türkiye continues to preserve its rich traditions and inspire future generations.
