Today is exactly one year since Belgrade was elected to host the Specialised EXPO to be held in our capital from 15 May to 15 August 2027. Last year, Belgrade applied for the organisation of this significant event for the first time and won at the 172nd General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris, in fierce competition with Spain’s Malaga, America’s Minnesota, Thailand’s Phuket, and Argentina’s Bariloche.

The Specialised EXPO 2027 will bring multiple benefits to Serbia during the 92 days, but also in the years before and after the exhibition. Marking one year since Belgrade was given the opportunity to host the Specialised Exhibition, the First Vice-President of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of Finance, Siniša Mali, said that this opportunity accelerated the economic development of the entire country.

“Our country was given a historic opportunity to play in the first league of advanced, innovative and creative, investment-friendly destinations, and we take that very seriously. Because of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, we will present ourselves to the world in the best manner, establish various types of cooperation with more than 120 countries, but also launch hundreds of new projects within our country, develop all industry branches, increase the number of employees, and most importantly, leave an even more beautiful and better Serbia to future generations”, said Minister Mali.

Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions, said that he was thrilled with the impressive progress that Serbia has made since it was chosen by the Bureau member countries a year ago to host the Specialised Exhibition in 2027. “The “Play for Humanity - Sports and Music for All” theme promises to foster unity and innovation, and we are looking forward to the continuation of our cooperation with Serbia to make this event a great success”, pointed out Kerkentzes, adding that the member states have shown a great interest in the theme, which is a strong sign that international participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade will be of a high quality.

Dušan Borovčanin, Director of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, emphasised that the Bureau International des Expositions showed great confidence in Serbia by awarding the organisation of the Specialised EXPO 2027. "I believe that the authenticity and relevance of the proposed theme, our organisational capacities in holding large events, but also our traditional hospitality were taken into account. I am proud of the entire EXPO team for everything we have done this past year. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and I am convinced that we will fulfil all the tasks with the support of the Government, institutions, the economy, academia, and also the citizens of Serbia", said Borovčanin.

EXPO 2027 Belgrade will be held from 15 May to 15 August 2027, under “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”.
